REST DAY! "God's Will in Prayer"

WOD:  REST DAY!!

Bible WOD:

1 John 5:14-15
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

I like this verse because it reminds me that I'm seeking God's will when I pray. Sometimes we pray in an attempt to persuade God to give us what we want. We need to understand that we are seeking God's will and not our own. Yes, we would love to see this person healed of cancer and yes I would like my financial burdens to go away but if it's not God's will then I need to accept that. There are times when we do pray seeking God's will but we also need to be patient for answered prayers. Once again, our will and timing isn't God's will or God's timing. His will and timing are perfect. Be patient, seek God's will and trust Him.

"Masters Chipper" and "The start of our study on prayer"

Today was supposed to be a rest day but i decided to participate in a chipper at the box and take my rest take tomorrow. We ended up doing the 2012 Crossfit Games Masters Chipper.

10 Deadlift (185lbs) i did 225lbs
20 pullups
30 box jumps (24in)
40 KB swings (53lbs)
50 double unders
40 KB swings (53lbs)
30 box jumps (24in)
20 pullups
10 Deadlift (185lbs) 225lbs

Time: 8:05

I did pretty much everything unbroken except for the last round of KB swings but I was happy with my time.

Bible WOD:

The next couple of days I will post scripture on Prayer which will be our next topic for discussion. So be sure you look into the scripture and gain some knowledge on prayer. Nobody has had any questions or ideas brought to me yet for discussion so please feel free to speak up! :)

John 9:31 NIV
We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.

Often I see unbelievers requesting prayer only through troubled times. Prayer is not only for asking favor to God but it's to talk and have a relationship with Him. At times, even believers only devote themselves to prayer when they are in need. This verse comfirms that if you're not saved (a christian) then God does NOT hear your prayers. Anyone who does the will of God and desires to keep his commandments is a believer and their prayers are heard. We will discuss more on this later.

Interval Training and "The Roaring Lion"

It's an awesome feeling to see myself progress weekly both physically and spiritually! I look back to what I was two years ago and it's like I've become this whole new person. Thanks to crossfit, I'm faster, stronger, and have trained my body to keep going when my mind so badly wants to stop. But the biggest change came when I got saved and turned away from the sinful, worldly lifestyle I used to live. I thank God every day that he gave me 27 years to open my eyes and realize my eternal destiny was in hell and I needed a savior. I've been saved for almost two years now and it's amazing how I've gradually been transformed into who I am today.

WOD:
Strict Press 5x2

Buy in: 30 ring dips, 30 GHD situps

10x 100m row with 10 seconds rest in between (keeping each 100m within 5 seconds of your first row)

Cashout: 200 double unders

Bible WOD:

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

God created us with the ability to choose... He could have made us like robots but he wants us to choose to love, serve, and worship Him. This life is full of choices we have to make but we have to be careful when making them.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you're making a decision and it's for sure the right one, but from out of nowhere this little voice inside your head tells you to do something different? Well I can tell you I've been in this situation many times! I think we all have. We often use the humorous version of this situation and go back to the cartoons where the little devil is sitting on one shoulder and an angel is sitting on the other. The humorous side of the situation isn't far from the truth at all.

Satan and his army of demons are out to destroy us and we need to be aware of this. There is a battle going on in the unseen spiritual realm and we are in the middle of it. As a christian, Satan wants to make us ignorant of God's will and wants us to question God to keep us from fully serving Him. As an unbeliever, Satan is out to make sure they never seek God and turn to Christ. He attacks our minds and bodies to gain control of our will. Satan knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our weaknesses and uses those weaknesses to tempt us into sin and away from Christ.

Satan will try to make us question God's will, deceive us, and lead us into sin. If Satan gets into our mind and controls what we think then he will control our body. If Satan controls both mind and body then he will control our will. If Satan controls our will then we will be lead away from God's will. We can't let him be successful in making us useless servants of God.

How do we fight Satan?
I can tell you no matter how big and strong you are, you're no match for Satan. He is a spiritual being and we are in mortal bodies... who's going to win? We can't win on our own so we need Christ to prevail. What did Jesus do to fight against Satan's temptations in the wilderness? That's right, he quoted scripture and Satan fled. (see, Mathew 4:1-11) This is why its important to read the Bible, study it and memorize scripture. The more scripture we have in our mind the bigger our sword is when fighting Satan. The problem is, unbelievers do not read nor understand the Bible.

How does unbelievers fight against Satan?
As you can see... they can't. They are always following the desires of the flesh and want nothing to do with the things of God. That's why its up to a Christian to lead them to Christ. If we never witness to these people then how will they be saved? We have to take these people by the hand and lead them down the road of salvation. If they CHOOSE to reject Christ then that's what they choose. We can't make them accept Christ but we can show them how. Our pride keeps us from witnessing to people because we are afraid of what they'll think. This shouldn't stop us, but it does! (I'm guilty) I had to realize people are going to hell and if I didn't share the gospel with them then they may never hear it.

How are Christians attacked by Satan?
Christians are always going to be tempted by Satan but we have to stand firm in our faith to defeat him. He will whisper things into our mind like..."God won't care, its just one time." "Nobody will find out if you did that." "Did God really say not to do that?"... if he can't get you to fall into sin that way then he will kick you when you're down. Our lives aren't always a big bowl of peaches; we have troublesome times of suffering and it seems like nothing will go our way. This is when Satan gets us thinking... "If God really loved me then he wouldn't make me go through this." (I'm guilty of this one.) The thing is, I know God loves me but Satan almost had me convinced otherwise. I had to become stronger in my faith so I turned to the Bible for comfort and spiritual growth. I now have a very large sword I fight Satan with on a daily basis and I'm determined to fulfill what God's will is for me. Yes, I will fall down at times but i will pick myself up and keep seeking the will of God.

If you're going through a tough time and under attack by Satan, I urge you to not believe his lies and do not turn your back on God. Find comfort in God's word (the Bible) and ask Him for help. If God allows it into your life, then it's part of God's ultimate plan. It's how we react to these things and the choices we make that will determine the outcome. You have to yield yourself to God and put your total faith and trust in Him. Don't let Satan win.... Put on the full armor of God and prevail!

The Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

WOD: 2012 Crossfit Games Chipper

So today I wanted to do something challenging and decided to do the 2012 Crossfit Games chipper WOD.

WOD:
10 OH squats (155lbs)
10 over the box jumps (24in)
10 Thrusters (135lbs)
10 Power Cleans (205lbs)
10 Toes to bar

This WOD was surprisingly taxing but looks so easy! Seems like the easier the WOD looks, the harder it is!

Bible WOD:

I'm working on a Bible WOD for tomorrow which will discuss our ability to choose and how we let Satan attack our mind and influence our decision to make us ignorant of God's will. Hope you all will enjoy it and get something out of it!

Read this verse, meditate and think about it for tomorrow's Bible WOD!

Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Christmas / Rest Day

I hope everyone has enjoyed their Christmas! It was great spending time with the family and not having to worry about going to work or rushing home to get something done. I'm on vacation until January 3rd and I couldn't be more happy about that! I think I consumed a pound on more of bacon this morning! lol Time to get back to training tomorrow! I hope those of you that are following this blog are enjoying it and continue to read. I tend to be a bit blunt and to the point sometimes but I'm not going to apologize for speaking the truth. You all have a blessed day! :)

"The Christmas Story"

Felt great this morning! Got up at 5am, had an awesome breakfast and got a few WODs in with some great people.

WOD:

Started off with 5x3 Front Squat (225, 245, 265, 285, 300) PR for my 3 rep

Then:

5 Rounds of:
500m row
5 wall climbs
50 double unders

Time was 18:23

Then we did a team WOD. I paired up with Jake Harper for a WOD I made up... I called it, "Holding up Karen"

Partner 1 did wallball and partner 2 Held up 315lbs at the top of the deadlift. If partner 1 let the ball drop or partner 2 dropped the bar then the partners would have to switch. The goal is to complete 150 wallballs as a team as fast as possible. Our time was 6:29

Bible WOD: "THE CHRISTMAS STORY"

The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

WOD: "Grace" and "Eternally Rich"

WOD: "Grace"

30 reps of Clean and Jerk with 135lbs

Legs were pretty much tired from yesterday's WOD but i did end up with a new PR time of 2:23

Bible WOD: "Eternally Rich"

Luke 2:6-7

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

As we approach Christmas, I think its appropriate to reflect back on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and what His purpose was. God knew we needed a savior and He provided us with one. God became a man to suffer on the cross for our sins... past, present, and future. As we live our lives, we have trials, troubles, suffering and other bad things that happen that make us question God. We find ourselves saying things like.. "Why God, did you let this happen to me? I'm a good person! I don't deserve this!" The problem is we forget what God has already done for us. Christ came into this world as a poor man to suffer OUR hell to make us eternally rich. If a poor man in this world has Christ then he is rich! He may not be rich as society sees but he has eternal life and a relationship with God, thanks to what Christ did for us. How much more could we ask for!? Scripture tells as that God works things out for the good of those who love him. (Romans 8:28) Shouldn't we put our faith and trust in Him? If a person does not have Christ and rejects Him then they are condemned. They could be the richest person on this earth and be eternally poor. Their riches are just temporary things that will get them just about anything they want in this lifetime but those riches will eventually cease to exist. Wouldn't you much rather have a richness that lasts forever? The good news is, you can... Thanks to Christ, we can now be eternally rich. If you haven't accepted Christ as your savior my question to you is, Why? Have you ever taken time to ask yourself what is after this life? We know this life will eventually end. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually. We are never guaranteed another day so that's why scripture says....

2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

It says NOW is the day of salvation.

Ask yourself "If I were to die now, where would I go?"

WOD: 12 Days of Christmas!

So yesterday we had a "12 Days of Christmas" WOD at the Country Roads Crossfit box. I had been up for over 33 hours yesterday so my mind wasn't clear enough to post a blog. We had a great turnout and had a great time getting everyone together. Some of the folks brought a paleo dish and we all dug in after the workout and consumed a lot of paleo goodness! Thanks to everyone who attended! I enjoy having each and every one of you in my life.

WOD: REST DAY!

As we rest, take some time studying God's word. Our free time should be spent, not just reading God's word, but studying God's word.

"TRIPLE THREAT"

Today i decided to do 3 WODs and one of those being a short strength WOD.

WOD 1: 12:30pm

3 rounds of:
25 double unders
20 alternating KB snatches (53lbs 10 each arm)
15 hand release pushups
10 knees to elbow
5 power cleans (185lbs)

Time: 8:31

WOD 2:

5min EMOM  3 reps Back Squat (265lbs)

WOD 3:

5 rounds of:
10 cal row
10 pistols (5 each leg)
10 squat cleans (135lbs)

Time: 14:32

My main goal this year is to get to regionals! I want to be in that atmosphere with all the same people that love to do what I do! Every once in a while i'm going to challenge myself with two, three, maybe 4 WODs in a day. I believe in challenging your body is the only way to get to the next level. If you're doing WODs and going through the motions without pushing yourself then your workout ethic will reflect your life or the other way around. You're just going to live life, going through the motions and not being the best you can be at whatever it is you do. I challenge you to challenge yourself every day and create a work ethic that challenges you on a daily basis. You're going to get out of life, what you put into it. If you are sitting at home, depressed, and saying life sucks... guess what... It's going to continue to suck if you sit there and keep telling yourself that. The only way anything will change for you is changing what you're doing. Doing the same routine = same results. Stop saying i need to do this and need to do that.... JUST DO IT!

WOD: "Diane" and "The Truth"

WOD:
5x2 Snatch (135, 135, 155, 165, 175) I tried focusing on form rather than a PR so i kept it light for the most part.

then:

"Diane"
21-15-9
Deadlift (225lbs)
Handstand Pushups

I finished "Diane" in 5:37 and my last PR was 8:38

I'm definitely feeling stronger with my handstand pushups as well as my ring dips. Doing these two movement as cashouts pretty often has helped quite a bit! I use cashout for movements you don't see in WOD's very often such as pistols, wallball, handstand pushups, ghd situps, ring dips, ring pushups and muscle ups. It helps get me better at these movements rather than going backwards from lack of doing them. If you don't do cashouts after your workouts I'd highly recommend starting for this reason.

Bible WOD:

Colossians 3:5-10 NIV
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

I've talked to several people these days who call themselves Christians. My question to you is, what is a Christian? If you have a problem explaining what a Christian is then how can you call yourself one? I see these people who label themselves as Christians going out to bars, cursing with no care, and living their own lives and show no godliness in their lives. I have a problem thinking that this person is truly saved and a Christian. The word Christian is thrown around like its just a label of someone that goes to church. In today's society this is what people believe a Christian is. The sad part is that these people think they will inherit the kingdom of heaven. These people need to understand the real truth because their eternal destiny is at risk. Most people think that just believing in God is enough to get you to heaven because they stop reading at one verse and know only one verse of the Bible. That verse would be John 3:16.

Hell is real and Satan is real! I hate to give some of you bad news but if you have a friend that passed away and they went to church once a month, didn't read the Bible, and had no works to show they were a christian then they probably were not. They are not watching over us, they are not an angel, and they are not resting in peace! They are in eternal damnation, in eternal pain, and in eternal hell because they didn't accept the truth. There is no second chances once you're gone from this life. We get one life to accept God or reject Him. Its our choice to accept Him and live for Him or reject Him and live to pleasure ourselves with sin and live like the world.

Here's the real truth... To be a true Christian you must 1. Believe in the Lord 2. Believe in The Son, Jesus Christ and that he died for our sins on the cross 3. Believe that he was raised from the dead on the third day. 4. Repent (turn away) from your sins. God knows our heart and when we truly believe. We can't just say ok i believe that... we have to believe it in our heart and only God knows when we truly believe.

1 John 2:3-6
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

We are not saved by our works, we are judged by our works, but our works should reflect a desire to serve God and live for him and not ourselves. The verses above are one of my favorites because as i read this I think that this is what you should see when you see a Christian. It says "put to death therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature". This means we are to stop living like the world! We should always obey God's commandments even though we never will be perfect at it. The difference is we have a desire and strive to keep them. We are always going to struggle in this world because of our corrupt sinful nature, but when we are saved then sin no longer has control over us. We can now choose to sin or not sin. Yes we will screw up but we go to God and say "God, I messed up will you please forgive me." Our sins are already forgiven when we're saved but we still feel the need to ask God to forgive us because he is our Father. It's just like doing something that upsets your earthly father. You want to apologize to restore your fellowship back with him.

If you call yourself a Christian, ask yourself this... "If I were to be arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict me?"

Sorry to be so pointed but you all need to know the truth and I'm not going to candy coat it.

WOD: Bench Press and Row

So today was a single element day. I like doing these every once in a while to try to PR old times on distance with my row or run. I started off with one of my weakest lifts of all time which is bench press. This has always been a weak point for me. After my strength I rowed a 2k for time.

Strength: 5x2 Bench Press (185, 205, 215, 225, 245)

2k Row for time (6:54)

Not a great day, but I've lacked sleep the past couple days, so hopefully i can get back on track soon.

The picture above has 3 awesome guys that I've got to know through crossfit and church. These are some great kids and I'm proud of their accomplishments and their dedication to any task they take on. They're not your normal teenagers... They have respect for everyone they come in contact with and stay out of the teenage trouble we have in this area. Jake Harper, Mathew Kuo and Michael Kuo... I'm proud to call you my friends. Keep up the hard work in the gym and in college.

REST DAY: TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Bible WOD:

Mathew 6:19-21
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

In today's society, it seems like life is one big competition. We are always worried about how much money we have, what car we drive, how big our house is, etc. This verse explains that all our earthly "treasures", such as these, will be destroyed. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow... but eventually everything we worked so hard for will be gone. What do we have when these things are gone? Well that's easy... NOTHING! The scripture above then tells us to store up treasures in heaven where they cannot be destroyed.... How do we do this!? We can't see heaven, we can't even begin to imagine what heaven is like so how do we store up treasures there? First off, we have to separate earthly treasure from heavenly treasure because they have absolutely nothing in common. If you are constantly worried about personal finances, pay raises, or when you'll get your next promotion then your heart is set on earthly treasures. Our worldly, sinful nature consumes us if we set our minds and hearts on earthly things. Before we can completely focus on heavenly treasures we need to turn away (repent) from the "treasures" of this world. After we believe in Jesus Christ, and turn away (repent) from our sins, then we can fully submit ourselves to God and understand heavenly treasures. My understanding is we store up treasure in heaven by seeking the Kingdom of God through helping others, which demonstrates the greatest of all sacrifices that God made for us! The bottom line is after we accept Christ as our Savior then we should have a love for one another like we never had before. Mathew 6:33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." So ask yourself... Do you want to consume yourself with the pleasures and treasure here on earth that perish OR seek the Kingdom of God and store up treasures in heaven that have eternal value?

WOD: "Cindy" and "Spiritual Training"

I'm posting today, trying to get this blog thing figured out and getting myself used to talking/typing... whatever you want to call it. My posts will be spotty through the month of December but hopefully I'll have it all figured out by January. A few days a week i'll be posting WOD's for our physical needs and Bible WOD's for our spiritual needs. I hope you all enjoy this blog and get involved with asking questions whether they are crossfit related or Bible related. I read from the NIV version of the Bible as I find it easier to read and understand.

Today I did "Cindy" which is a 20min AMRAP (As Many Rounds as Possible)
5 pullups
10 pushups
15 bodyweight squats

I felt great doing this workout but didn't count my rounds.

Bible WOD:

1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

As a Christian, I know my body is the temple of God and I should respect this body He has given me. That's why I practice healthy eating habits as well as crossfit. If I'm healthy then I can be of better service to God. However, this verse says physical training is important but godliness is more important.
What exactly is godliness?
Godliness is reflected when you're a true, born again Christian. It's permanent. A godly person is committed to obeying God in the world. Before I became a Christian I allowed sin to control my life... I drank, cussed, lied, and wanted nothing to do with the things of God. Now, I no longer do those things, sin doesn't control my life. I can now turn away (repent) from sins I used to. I no longer want to please the flesh but I now have a new desire to please God and serve God. We are not saved by our works, we are saved by God's grace through faith, but our works should reflect godliness. We cant be what society accepts as a good person and expect to get a free pass into heaven; it just doesn't work that way. We can never be sinless but as a christian, we should sin less. So we ought to be godly christians because it holds an eternal value for our souls. It should sicken us to sin against God because we know he sent his only son, Jesus Christ to pay for our sins on the cross. He suffered our hell for us!

WORK IN PROGRESS

This page is a work in progress. I'm hoping to have it up and running full time at the first of the year. This blog will discuss crossfit, workouts, and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I'll also be posting  daily bible divotionals (aka Bible WOD). I'm hoping this idea will bring the crossfit community closer to God. Not only do we need to take care of our bodies but we also need to be concerned about our souls and our eternal destiny. I hope this blog will take off and have some positive feedback. Please be patient with me as I come up with ideas and set up this blog. Any ideas from you all would be great! Thanks!
